The WSQ-Discovery is administered online and can be completed on any device that has access to internet and a web browser. A certified facilitator needs to administer and interpret the reports.
What does the WSQ Discovery measure?
The WSQ-Discovery measures the Big Five Factor Model, Self-Concept Variables and Psychological Values. The WSQ-Discovery also identifies Personality Type along four dimensions: Motivation, Focus, Thinking and Orientation. The WSQ-Discovery measures personality on typical days, good days, and when experiencing stress. This unique aspect of the WSQ-Discovery helps unlock many of the discrepancies between how people react under stress or frustration as opposed to when they are at their best.
What is the research behind the WSQ Discovery?
The Big Five Factor Model is the most widely researched Theory of Personality that has an immense amount of data. The Psychological Values are based on the concepts of Murray’s Psychological Needs in conjunction with a variety of psychological theories including psychodynamic theory, narrative, and cognitive affective. Regarding the WSQ-Discovery data itself, much of the research is rooted in the original versions of the WSQ15 where over a million people completed the assessments. Numerous studies using both predictive design and concurrent designs looks at the correlations with performance. The WSQ-Discovery uses this information and a current sample size of 60,000 with many concurrent studies in process currently.
How do I get permission to adapt the WSQ Discovery?
The WSQ-Discovery is a set measure of personality. Therefore, the questionnaire itself is not customizable. However, there are customizable reports available depending on the purpose and use of the reports. If interested in customizing a report, contact CareProfiler to discuss options.
Reporting & Access
Scoring of the reports in the Hiring & Onboarding License is completely automated. Reports are available to the license-holding organization as soon as the applicant clicks submit on their responses. Reports are accessible via instant email notification as well in an online dashboard. Additionally, the Hiring & Onboarding License provides organizations with unlimited logins to the dashboard, allowing hiring managers to access the appropriate reports for their applicants and employees. Site administrators can set permission levels for users to control necessary degrees of confidentiality and access to information.
What are the guidelines for ethical use of the WSQ Discovery?
The WSQ-Discovery is used primarily in the context of work (selection or development). There are a number of bodies that drive the ethical use within this field such as: American Psychological Association Code of Ethics for use of psychological assessments; SIOP’s guideline for using assessments; and EEOC guidelines.
Certified facilitators must be licensed or part of an association and adhere to their ethical codes when administering the WSQ-Discovery.
Can my WSQ Discovery results change over time?
The Big Five Traits are stable over time and are not expected to change over time. Since the WSQ-Discovery also measures constructs such as self-concept scales and psychological values, it is possible for those to change over time. This can occur because of extensive self-work or coaching as well as major life events
Do I need to be certified to administer the WSQ-Discovery?
Certification depends on the purpose and type of membership you have. For basic hiring, interviewing and onboarding practices, you do not need to be certified to administer the WSQ-Discovery but a membership is required. If you want to access any other reports certification is necessary to access those reports.
What is the difference between the WSQ 10, 15 and WSQ-Discovery?
CareProfiler’s flagship tool is the Work Style Questionnaire 10 (WSQ10) and the Work Style Questionnaire 15 (WSQ15). The WSQ10 measures 10 characteristics that identify the key characteristics for frontline staff in health and human services. Shortly after, CareProfiler created the WSQ15 which adds additional skills more related to management and leadership roles.
Since then, CareProfiler has developed the WSQ-Discovery which is a full 40 scale measure of global measure of an individual’s personality traits and type, self-concept, and psychological values on their best day, a typical day, and under stress.
Does the mood I’m in affect my results?
It is unlikely for the scores on the WSQ- Discovery to be significantly higher on one scale one day and then flipped on the other day. However, it is common to see slight score changes but the general shape will remain consistent.
Can I take the WSQ Discovery Assessment if I have a reading disability?
The WSQ-Discovery is written at a fourth grade reading level and is a measure of pure traits rather than comprehension. Additionally, it is possible to have someone read the items to the test taker.
Is the WSQ-Discovery Job Fit Report legally defensible?
The WSQ-Discovery Job Fit Report is validated for use in selection and meets EEOC standards

What is happening to WSQ 10 & WSQ 15?
The WSQ 10 and WSQ 15 no longer exist as questionnaires – all individuals now complete WSQ-Discovery (effective October 2018). Given that WSQ-Discovery also measures the scales that were included in WSQ 10 and 15 (plus additional scales), The WSQ 10 & 15 Hire Report, Manager Report, and Insights Report can still be generated after an individual completes WSQ-Discovery. However, these reports will stop being available effective March 15, 2020.
Can I get WSQ-Discovery Reports on current staff?
WSQ-Discovery has been administered to all individuals since October 2018. Anyone who completed a WSQ prior would need to complete the questionnaire again to have access to WSQ-Discovery reports.
Do I have to change anything in my applicants’ process?
No – nothing changes; you can use the same link and process that you have been using. In fact, all individual who have accessed your link have completed WSQ-Discovery since October 2018.
Is WSQ-Discovery longer than WSQ 10 & WSQ 15?
No – WSQ-Discovery is the same length as the WSQ 10/15. It takes the average person approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Do I have to use tokens to access reports?
Members who have had an annual unlimited use license are grandfathered into an unlimited use license for the Job Fit Report and DayOne Conversation Guide. The remaining reports do require tokens.
How do the WSQ-Discovery Reports relate to the WSQ 10 & 15 Reports?
While the WSQ-Discovery Report are new and separate from the WSQ 10 & 15 Reports, there are some parallels. The WSQ-Discovery Job Fit Report is analogous to the WSQ 10 & 15 HIRE Reports. The WSQ-Discovery DayOne Conversation Guide serves the combined purpose of the WSQ 10 & 15 Manger and Insights Reports. The remaining WSQ-Discovery Reports offer value beyond any existing WSQ 10 & 15 report. These include Strengths & Derailers, Personal Effectiveness, Facilitator, Match, and Conflict Energies Reports.
How do I learn how to use the WSQ-Discovery reports?
A CareProfiler Membership provides training resources for the Professional Series Reports (Job Fit, DayOne Conversation Guides, and Strengths & Derailers). These resources are in your Dashboard and include tutorial videos on interpretation guides. Additionally, half day intensive trainings are provided on these reports. These Intensives focus on not only leveraging the reports to maximize their value, but also on acquiring and developing skills around interviewing and managing. How do I access the WSQ-Discovery Certified Series reports?
The WSQ-Discovery Certified Series Reports (Personal Effectiveness, Facilitator, Match, and Conflict Energies) may be accessed by a WSQ-Discovery Certified Facilitator or Coach.
